At Newcastle Australia, we provide interactive workshops, platforms for peer collaboration, individual and group consultations, and guided access to university digital tools and online resources. Our programs are grounded in the University’s values of Excellence, Equity, Engagement, and Sustainability and we uphold the university standards on academic integrity.

Transition Journey

Supporting students as they adapt to university life, academic expectations, and independent learning. Activities include orientation, briefing on the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) and Academic Screening Test (AEST).

Encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, communication skills, presentation skills and other interdisciplinary skills. We provide on-demand support on interdisciplinary and career skills enquiries.

Digital & AI Literacy

Building digital fluency through Microsoft 365 tools, GenAI tools, and the Digital Capabilities Framework. We equip students to access and apply UON tools and resources for their academic learning. Students are encouraged to undertake the Digital Capabilities Survey and tap on the recommended resources to complement their learning journey.

Postgraduate Essential Tools and Resources

This workshop introduces key academic tools, digital platforms, and support services available to students to support them in their learning journey at university. Participants will learn how to navigate online systems, access university tools and resources for learning.

Mastering APA 7

APA 7 referencing is an essential skill to develop before starting any assignment. This workshop provides a practical introduction to APA 7 style of writing, helping learners to write clearly and provide support and evidence to their writing by citing sources accurately.

Peer Support Programs
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) 

PASS are voluntary study sessions designed to enhance the understanding of subject materials and connect students with other learners in a warm and collaborative learning environment. Outstanding seniors in a course will facilitate the sessions and organise regular meeting sessions to discuss course contents, share ideas, asks questions and build confidence.

Peer-to-Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PPASS) 

PPASS is built on the PASS model but it offers a more flexible, informal approach by allowing  peers in the same course to lead the facilitation of the study sessions.

The Learning Support programs outlined below applies to both PSB Academy (PSBA) and BCA Academy (BCAA) campuses. While the core support offerings are consistent across both partners, PSBA provides a broader range of services tailored to its larger student population and academic needs.

Transition to Tertiary/Postgraduate Education

This interactive workshop is designed to support students transitioning into tertiary or postgraduate education by equipping them with essential academic and personal management skills. Students will learn how to take ownership of their learning, effectively manage deadlines, and apply strategic study techniques.

Academic Writing

The Academic Writing workshop is designed to help students develop strong academic writing skills essential for success in university studies. Students will learn about the tone, structure, and purpose of academic writing, and how to organize their ideas coherently. The session also covers proper referencing and in-text citation using APA 7th Edition.

Conversational English

The English Conversational workshop is designed to help students build confidence and fluency in everyday spoken English. Offered in a relaxed and supportive environment, Through role-plays, group discussions, and fun speaking activities, students develop conversational skills that are essential for academic, professional, and social settings.

Introduction to Excel

The Introduction to Excel workshop is designed to equip students with foundational skills in Microsoft Excel for academic and professional use. Students will learn how to navigate the Excel interface, practical skill sin navigating spreadsheets and guidance on creating basic charts for effective data visualization.

Exam Preparation Workshop

The Exam Preparation workshop is designed to help students prepare effectively for their exams. Students will gain a clear understanding of the Exam Rules and Regulations specific to UON Singapore. learn how to create realistic study schedules, set achievable goals, and apply effective strategies in responding to questions in an examination.

Other Activities/Events
Dedicated Study Time

UON Dedicated Study Time (DST) encourages students to build consistent study habits by committing to at least 3 hours of focused study each week. Students can choose between solitary or group study sessions. Upon fulfilling their weekly commitment, students will be eligible for a reward, reinforcing motivation and accountability.

English ‘Tea’

Learners come together at the on-demand English “tea’ sessions to chat, share ideas, and build confidence in spoken English. The theme of the chat focuses on current news, and everyday topics.  Participants may just turn up and enjoy interesting conversations, along with a cup of tea!

AI Skills for Learning

The AI Skills for Learning session is available on demand and introduces students to the fundamentals of Generative AI (GenAI) and its practical applications in learning. Students will explore how various AI tools can enhance study habits and creativity, while also gaining insights into academic integrity, proper citation practices, and responsible AI use.

UONTalk

UONTalk is an on-demand programme designed to help students enhance their critical thinking and communication skills through engaging, student-led discussions. Students will take part in roundtable conversations on current or interdisciplinary issues and they are offered the opportunity to deliver stand-up presentations to inspire others on topics of personal or academic interest.

The Duty Tutors Assistance Scheme (DTAS) initiative was introduced to assist students who may need extra help with difficult concepts. DTAS is manned by Duty Tutors who are well versed in their subjects, which means that you will get the extra help you need to do well in a course.

DTAS is available only for Engineering and Business students.

Transition to Tertiary Education Course

Newcastle Australia IHE has developed a Transition to Tertiary Education Course to support students transitioning to University. The aim of the course is to help students understand the high academic standards, ethos and task demands of their program.
The course consists of two sessions that provide information on writing reports, preparing for exams and presenting research. It is designed to provide students with the foundation of good scholarly knowledge, appropriate skills, strategies, core concepts and work habits.
